Day two in The City! Had a great time up in mid town. We rode the water taxi over to the Financial Center then caught a cab up to Broadway and 34th Street to Macy's.
I mentioned the Winter Garden at the Financial Center in yesterday's blog. This is what it looks like.

Susan wanted to see a big New York Department Store. Macy's did not disappoint. Nine floors of goods from A-Z. It was packed. Sales people all had uniforms or suits. Lots of customer service. Very impressive, and it was air conditioned inside! Outside the temperature hit 89 with high humidity. We needed the cool! I especially liked the very old escalators with wood paneling and wood slats that you stand on.

Spent too much time in Macy's then walked up Broadway and wound up at Times Square.  I was blown away by the high tech signage and video boards that were hung on the sides of buildings. They were enormous! The colors of all the advertising and the signs against the high rise buildings was beautiful. Again, tens of thousands of people everywhere on the streets.

This part of New York is entirely different from Lower Manhattan. The traffic, the look, the people-it reminded me of a different town from yesterday. Traffic was grid locked. Walking was the way to go!

It was then time to get cool again. We ducked into the Brooklyn Diner at Times Square and had lunch. Calling this a Diner is almost a misnomer. It was quite a nice restaurant. We had some great sandwiches and got comfortable again.

After lunch we walked over to The Avenue of The Americas and headed North. Soon we came to Rockefeller Center or 30 Rock. This is the GE Building where NBC is headquartered. We went into the Lobby and checked out the observation deck called Top of the Rock. At $27 per adult, we decided to pass on the view. We saw the skating rink that has been turned into a tent city with restaurants and shops. I would like the rink better, but alas, can't do this in the summertime!

Radio City Music Hall is across the street from the GE Building. Nothing going on here today. We again passed on a "backstage" tour.

Continuing North, we passed CBS and then The Warwick Hotel where I have stayed before. Soon we crossed West 57th Street and a block or so farther up, we made it to Central Park.

Central Park is awesome. Amazingly wooded and green with huge rock outcroppings right along the streets. And boy,was it crowded. People everywhere. It was really hot now. We walked to Columbus Circle. Along the way we saw the high end apartments and condos along the street across from Central Park.

Columbus Circle was it for us. We had seen what we wanted to see in New York and it was very hot! Susan got a good flavor of the City, especially today in mid town. It was a great visit. We grabbed a cab and rode back to the Financial Center in lower Manhattan to catch the ferry back to the marina. The breeze sitting by the river waiting for the ferry was very refreshing. We got back to the marina in the late afternoon, but before rush hour!

Tomorrow we head up the River about 30 miles to Half Moon Marina at a town called Croton-on-Hudson. It is North of the Tappan Zee Bridge across the Hudson. I am looking forward to the country side.

The Erie Canal is still closed at the Eastern end. Looper boats are stacked up on the upper Hudson. The Canal may open up Friday or Sunday. There will be a flood of Loopers getting into the Canal and it will be crowded. My preference is to lay back a little and let the people who have been waiting up there go on. Right now we are a little bit ahead of schedule, so we may spend a few days in Croton and then up the river in Kingston and Albany.

Thanks for Reading!
