This morning at 2:30, I woke up to winds and waves slapping the boat. I checked the weather radar and saw a long line of yellow moving to the East toward Beaufort. The storm hit us about 3 but did not last very long, thank goodness. The winds were high, the rain was hard, and then the line had passed.

We had doubled up on our dock lines to handle the wind and the current, so I felt OK that we would stay on the dock through the storm. The current makes that slapping sound on our fiberglass hull, and that can be disturbing, unless you are too tired to care, which we all were!

We had decided Last night to stay over Friday in Beaufort and go to Charleston on Saturday. Saturday is supposed to be a beautiful day to make the 70 mile run North. As soon as the Marina office opened here in Beaufort this morning, I went up and extended our stay, which was not a problem.

We ate lunch at a place that we hit yesterday, Blackstone's Cafe on Scott St. Today we ate inside, and the service was not quite up to par as it was yesterday. The food was ample and great!

After lunch, we shopped some more stores that we missed yesterday on Bay Street. The rains then hit us and we made a run for it to get to the boat. Needless to say we all got soaked. So, it has rained off and on all day, with waves of rain moving through. We have worn out Beaufort and are ready to get going.

Tonight we ate dinner on board. We are watching a movie on DVD.

I want to put in a plug for my friends Doug and Jan and their Blog "Day Dreams Adventures 2013". They have a Kady Krogen  trawler just North of Toledo, Oh on Lake Erie. They launch their boat for the season tomorrow and continue their preparations for a four month cruise on Lake Superior this summer. Follow the Blog at daydreamslakesuperior.blogspot.com

We are off to Charleston in the morning.

Thanks for Reading!

  1. Hi Chuck,

I hope all is going well. Do you have any plans to cruise up the Chesapeake? I keep my boat at Skip Jack Marina on the Sassafras River in Maryland. It is about a 10 mile run to the marina from the Bay. Nice facilities. It would be fun to meet up after all these years.
It is about an hour run from the Marina to the C & D canal.
    All the best,
    Cousin John B
