This morning started with heavy rain showers. It was cool enough that jeans were in order instead of shorts. The rain stopped mid morning, and we made plans to find some needed provisions. The morning was spent trying to find my missing Numbers files that disappeared from my iPad last night. In going through the exercises, I also did iCloud maintenance and backups, and backed up the iPad to my laptop. I am happy to say that somehow through all the morning's work, the missing Numbers files reappeared on the iPad.

Boating and cruising calls for flexibility. The past two days it has been electrical troubleshooting. Today it was computer and software troubleshooting.

After lunch, we offloaded the bikes from the boat and laid them flat on the dock in front of the boat. Nothing fell in the water today, thank goodness! We loaded up our mesh backpacks and headed out to find Walmart which was a 2-1/2 mile ride from the marina along the main street of Southport. We kept riding along Howe Street and finally reached the shopping center. We cable locked the bikes to a post in front of Walmart. We put the cables through the loops on the backpacks and secured them to the bikes. I told Susan later that it is good that the backpacks are see through mesh so that someone does not see backpacks chained to bikes in front of a store and suspects that they might have explosives in them.

We did our grocery shopping at Walmart. We picked up a lot of frozen food and some fresh vegetables, deli meats and cheeses, eggs, juice, etc. When we had checked out and carried the groceries out to the bikes, I was pleased that they were still chained to the post and no one had helped themselves to the back packs. We redistributed the food and "de-packaged" some things to make them fit in the backpacks and bike baskets better. After strapping on the backpacks, we rode back to the marina. Total round trip distance was almost 5 miles.

We got to see the main street of Southport. This is another old coastal town that was founded in the 1700's when a fort was built on the coast to defend the Cape Fear region against Spanish privateers. Southport is at the mouth of the Cape Fear River where it empties into the Atlantic ocean through an inlet between Baldhead Island to the North and Oak Island to the South. In yesterday's Blog, I mistakenly identified a very tall lighthouse in a picture as the Baldhead Island Lighthouse. This lighthouse is actually on Oak Island just South of the Cape Fear River inlet. Cape Fear is actually on the North end of Baldhead Island.
This lighthouse is about 170' tall and is on Oak Island, not Baldhead Island as was reported in yesterday's Blog

Southport has been populular for movie filming over the years. The latest movie to be filmed here was a flick called "Safe Haven" from a book written by Nicolas Sparks. Other movies filmed here include "Weekend at Bernies", "I Know What You Did Last Summer", "Crimes of the Heart", "Summer Catch", "Domestic Disturbance", and "A Walk to Remember".

Tomorrow the weather should break a little, and we should check out more of the town. We met Craig and Barbara from "Blue Herron" as we were coming back from Walmart, as they had pulled into the marina right after lunch. We will try to eat dinner together tomorrow. We are bundled up tonight as we expect temps in the 40's.

Thanks for Reading!
