Tonight we are in New Baltimore, NY!
New Baltimore is about 20 miles South of the Erie Canal

This morning we turned in the rental car and got off from Kingston about 9:00. We have been at Kingston for just under three weeks. It had really started to grow on us. The people at the marina were all very nice and accommodating. Chelsea was especially helpful, and made our stay very enjoyable. Thank you Kingston City Marina!

Goodbye Kingston, NY!

The ride North up the Hudson River was nice. There was little to no breeze and the water was basically flat. We did buck the tide pretty much the entire way, so we averaged a little over 7 mph in fuel conservation mode.

I was amazed at the light houses that we saw along the way. They are spread out along the River near creeks entering the waterway. They seem to be old houses with light towers that are just built on rock piles in the River. I loved seeing the various styles that we passed.

We also passed some commercial shipping traffic today. Several tows and one big ocean going ship coming down the Hudson from Albany. It was really strange seeing this big ship come toward us with the mountains in the background.

It was extremely hot today. This area is on day 4 of a serious 6 day heat wave. The worst is set to hit us on Friday. The weekend will bring storms and much cooler temps. We ran without the generator and the AC in the cabin, only to start the generator and turn on the air about 30 minutes before we arrived at Shady Harbor in hopes it would cool the boat down. That was not soon enough as the cabin did not get cool. It is still close to 80 in the cabin and we have been docked for four hours. We may have to run the generator and the air from the start in the next few days. We are worried about keeping the pets cool, especially Maggie who needs another Summer hair cut. Should have gotten it done in Kingston. She was very hot today, but we kept her hydrated on the Flybridge.

We have decided to go into the Erie Canal tomorrow and complete the first five locks called the "Waterford Flight". We will then spend the night at Crescent Boat Club at mile 6 on the Canal. This will make the trip to Amsterdam on Friday a little shorter.

We are very glad to be moving on again!
