Tonight we are near Camden, TN at Birdsong Resort and Marina which is in Birdsong Creek off the Tennessee River.
We are near Camden, TN, West of Nashville |
We slept late this morning knowing that we had a relatively short day. Our departure was at 9:00 and the wind was already blowing from the Northeast. The day was magnificent with clear blue cloudless skies and cool weather again. The low sun angle really works on the old eyes during the morning and mid afternoons. It is really hard to see as we head South and Southeast. The channel swings back and forth from one side of the Lake to the other, and the sun makes it hard to see the channel markers.
View out the Front Door this morning. Notice how the low sun angle makes it oh so hard to see! |
The wind was again from our back, and today we had somewhat of a following sea on the big lake. "Blue Moon" felt the waves from her stern and did some wallowing. It was not too bad.
We passed through some beautiful countryside today, and saw some trees that have started to turn. We passed by an old railroad bridge that has been partially demo'ed and an old dock complex just sitting out in the middle of the Lake. We also passed by New Johnsonville, TN which is an industrial town on the East shores of the Lake. There is a big DuPont plant there. We did some construction work in New Johnsonville once. Once was enough!

Another thing we are seeing plenty of is bass boats. They are prolific on this big lake! You can see them way off in the distance by the rooster tails that they kick up. You can also see them porpoising in the waves and wakes of other boats. The rides look very uncomfortable, as with these guys there is no middle of the road. Speed is either stopped or wide open. I will say that they fish the channel and the entrances to the marinas, but unlike their brethren to the North, these bass fishermen have all gotten out of the way when we have approached. Better manners in the South?
We wanted to go 50 miles to Cuba Landing, TN today, but the marina is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. They must not know that this is Looper season! Instead, our marina tonight is Birdsong Marina near Camden, TN, which is almost due West of Nashville. We are at mile 103.5 on the Tennessee River.
Birdsong's is an old marina that I remember from my days of going to the annual boat shows in Nashville. I remember that they would always have a booth. They advertise themselves as a resort, but if it is here, we haven't seen it! Maybe by resort they mean all the trailers parked up on the hill. Hmmm. Anyway, it will do for tonight. We have a dock, water, and power, and the price is pretty reasonable, so no complaints right now. We can get Maggie off and on the boat, which is a plus as well.

Tomorrow we continue South to Clifton, TN which is about 60 miles from Birdsong's. We hear that by the time we make it to Clifton that we will be out of Kentucky Lake and into pure river travel again. Sounds good to me!
Thanks for Reading!
