Tonight we are at the Marine Max Bluff Docks on the waterfront in downtown Chattanooga, TN.
Early this morning I measured up the new helm seat and got a list of items needed to install it. I am replacing the seat to the port side of the upper helm seat on the fly bridge with a high backed reclining seat that matches the new helm seat that I installed earlier this year. This port side seat is the seat where Susan rides, and I wanted to get her a more comfortable seat.
At 9:00 I took the rental car to return it to Enterprise. On the way, I stopped at Ace Hardware and got fasteners for the helm seat. Enterprise had me back at the boat shortly after 10.
The seat was installed with no problem. It is a huge improvement over the hard, stiff Pompanette seat that I replaced. Very comfortable!

New Seat. Glad it turns Aft so it can be used when we are docked. |
At 11:30, we cast off from our slip at Island Cove Marina and headed down Chickamauga Lake toward the Lock and Dam. We got to the Lock Arrival Point (AP) at 12:25 and waited 20 minutes for a boat that was locking up. We got in the Lock and secured at 12:50, and it only took 15 minutes to let us down.
Approaching Chickamauga Lock from the Upper or North End |
Lower Doors Opening to Let us Out of Chickamauga Lock. This Lock is the Smallest on the Tennessee River and is Very Old. It is a Real Bottle neck for Commercial Traffic. |
Leaving the Lock. Very Narrow and Confined. It Would Be Difficult to Thread a Tow into and out of this Lock! |
Very Narrow Passageway Coming Out of the Lock. |
Finally Getting a Clear Shot out of the Narrow Fairway From the Lock |

Another 40 minutes found us at the Marine Max dock. We got a pump out and then went to our slip on the face dock at the Bluffs dock. This is a gated dock just North of the Aquarium, along a picturesque bluff. The current is very strong here, and the dock is right on the river, so we have a lot of wave action from passing boats. It rocks! The dock is also right under the Market Street Bridge, and there is a lot of traffic noise above.

The Bluff Docks Looking Down River |
The Bluff Docks Looking Up River and the Pedestrian Bridge Over the River. That is "Journey" in Front of Us. We Travelled with Them from Chicago for a Few Days. |
We are Docked Directly Across from the Delta Queen |
Late in the afternoon, some rowing skulls came by the docks. We have seen several rowers on the River today, and it is neat that this sport is taking off here in Chattanooga. Reminds us of the rowing that we saw on the Erie Canal and in Buffalo.
Tonight we went into town and walked up the main street. To get there, we walked between the two massive Aquarium Buildings. It brought back memories of my trips over here when we were building the second building. (I was not involved when we built the first building)

We chose Big River Grille for dinner. We used to eat lunch there when we had Aquarium job meetings during construction. It was OK. Susan had shrimp and grits and they must have exhausted the entire garlic supply in the kitchen, because it was "over garlic'd" for sure.
We encountered several panhandlers on the street in front of the restaurants. I was disappointed that they allowed this here. There seem to be a lot of transients on the streets as well. Susan did not feel real comfortable in the area along the water where she walks Maggie after dark.
Tomorrow we will check out the Aquarium and other attractions here in downtown Chattanooga. It is a really neat town.
Thanks for Reading!
