Preparations for Our Ride Into Savannah

140' Sailboat at Thunderbolt Marina

We stayed in Savannah for a second full day, just to go back into town and see some things that we missed on Monday. We parked in a parking garage on Jefferson Street, then walked a couple of short blocks to Broughton St. We walked East on Broughton and mainly window shopped. Linda found a neat shop and bought some coasters.

Broughton stores were not as Susan and I remembered them from our last Savannah trip, so we made our way over to the City Center area and ate lunch at a newly opened Wet Willie's Restaurant where we sat outside under some trees on the sidewalk.

Suffice it to say that we all got "Wet Willies" at this place. The service was as bad as we have had since Jekyll Island. They either lost our order or didn't care, and after eons of waiting, we got our food....err partially. So, we saw the manager delivering some orders around us, called her over, and critiqued her establishment and her server. She then explained that it was their 3rd week of being open, and they were going through some major "growing pains". She was nice enough to comp all of of order!

We finished in Savannah after lunch. We really did not have an interest in touring houses or museums. I guess it is just that stage of our lives. Been there done that. So, we got into the car and headed out to see what Tybee Island was all about. It took a while to get out there through the marshes and across several big creeks or rivers. Not much to see when we did get into town. The lighthouse complex was closed on Tuesdays, so that saved us a 178 step climb to the top. There is an old fort that is at the point on the island where the lighthouse stands. It has apparently been sold to developers and they have built beach houses and condos in and around it. One big battery of the fort was the foundation for a 5 or 6 story condo complex. Kind of unique. Bottom line on Tybee: Not much to see out there.

Dinner last night was back at Tubby's by the marina. It is called Tubby's Tank House, and we got tanked by Tubby. The server we started with was terrible. She got into a heated debate with one of our group about substituting coleslaw for fries on a stupid shrimp basket. I asked for a new server, and as a result, we were penalized with over an hour wait to get our food. Tanked by Tubby was our theme for last night, but the manager came over ON HER OWN, and admitted they were having problems, and gave us a good deal on the meal. I respect them for that! The crab stew was as good last night as it was on Sunday night!

So we all got wet willies and tanked by Tubby. What a great day!

On to Beaufort, SC on Wednesday!

Thanks for Reading.
