We are traveling with "Sun Gypsy" and "Let's Drift". This morning at about 8:15 I talked to Tom Bevill Lock and they were waiting on the down bound Towboat "Joe Cain" to go into the Lock. The lock master said he would call us on the VHF when he got the tow through. He did call about 8:30 and we headed about a mile to the lock, leaving Pirate's Marina Cove in our rear view mirror after four glorious days in this West Alabama piece of paradise. We had several glorious nights with sunsets and a nice moon.

We were in the lock a little after 10 and out about 10:30. Commercial traffic on the Waterway was heavy today. We soon passed the Joe Cain after coming out of the lock. Going down stream, we passed another four up bound tows during the trip. The river was very twisting and we got a few of these tows in some tight bends. The last one got us into a one whistle pass on the outside of the bend and his flanking rudders threw a ton of wake at us. Rock and roll! It was rough for a few minutes there. Fern Hoppie said that this is a No-No! Thank you "Shelby Jean"!
Waiting at Tom Bevill Lock this Morning

Cruising today in 30 degree temps was not as bad as we anticipated. Yes, it was rough in the lock this morning. Yes, there was ice on the docks this morning. But, riding in the "bubble" on the fly bridge was fairly comfortable once the sun got high enough to warm us up. We started with sweat shirts, fleeces, and coats, and shed the layers as it warmed up.

Our destination tonight was a slough at the Sumter Recreation Area. When we found the entrance to the slough, Sun Gypsy lead us in and anchored in the back of the slough. We entered next and anchored in front of Sun Gypsy. Let's Drift went past us and anchored behind Sun Gypsy.

Our anchorage point was right off the boat launch at the recreation area. When we got set, we dropped the dinghy and put the engine on it. We then motored over to the ramp with Maggie, and there was a "piece" of a dock there. Maggie and Susan got off and Maggs did her thing and got back in the dinghy. We went back to the boat, and it was getting dark. Dinner tonight was on board, ha ha. No restaurants out here!

We have been running the generator all day. I hope it stays on tonight because we need the thing to run the heat. It is supposed to be in the twenties tonight. The last time we tried to run the generator all night, it cut off at 2:30 AM on over heating. This was up on the Mississippi River. Since then, we have a new impeller.

Tomorrow we continue on to Demopolis, AL. We only have three more locks to transit before we finish the Loop. We will do one of the three tomorrow! Yea!

Thanks for Reading!
