Tonight we are still at the Pirate's Marina Cove near Pickensville and Aliceville, AL.

We are staying with "Sun Gypsy" here at Pirate's. Sun Gypsy has a leaking transmission seal that should be repaired tomorrow, and we want to travel together down the waterway. We feel like with the very remote and rural nature of this part of the Loop, that it makes sense to maintain the "buddy boat" concept.

Today was a beautiful weather day. The skies were clear and blue. It was very warm and I even changed into shorts! As that great Southern Rock Band Lynyrd Skynyrd would opine:

"Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet home Alabama
Lord, I'm coming home to you"
A Beautiful Sunday Afternoon at Pirate's

A Work Boat at Pirate's Marina Cove Today

Susan and I and Rick from "Sun Gypsy" went back to the Down Yonder Restaurant in Pickensville for lunch, using the marina courtesy van. Leila has a stomach bug and stayed behind. We also drove a few miles into Aliceville to go to the CVS. Not much to the town at all, especially on a Sunday afternoon.

Back at the marina, I checked out my outboard for the inflatable dinghy by putting it on the dinghy and running the engine. Everything worked OK in preparation for our upcoming anchoring which will start tomorrow afternoon if we get away from here tomorrow.
Susan and Maggie with Linda on "Young America, a 37' Great Harbor

Several boats left today and a new Looper boat arrived mid afternoon. The new arrival is "Young America" from Newburgh, NY on the Hudson River. It is a 37' Great Harbor built in Gainesville, FL and launched and outfitted on the St. Johns River at Green Cove Springs. Linda and Fred are the owners and they invited everyone over for docktails on the boat tonight. I have looked at these boats before, but I have never been on this model, and both Susan and I were amazed at the room and layout of the boat. Very nice. We really enjoyed getting to know Linda and Fred. Thank you for opening your beautiful boat to us!

Tomorrow we will wait for the mechanic to come down to Sun Gypsy and make the repairs, then go through the Bevill Lock right here at the marina and try to make the anchorage at Sumter Recreation Area. It should be about a 37 mile trip.

Our itinerary for this week should get us to Demopolis, AL on Tuesday, Bobby's Fish Camp on Thursday, and Dog River in Mobile on Saturday. The weather forecast for this week is for very cold temps and a lot of wind. Lows are forecast for the 20's with wind chills in the teens. Not sure how all of this will play out on the boat, especially when we have to anchor out for three nights. Ugh! Why are we even doing this cruise in mid November?

We have made the decision to lay over in Mobile until after Christmas, then do the Gulf crossing to Tarpon Springs in January. This takes a lot of pressure off in order to get some maintenance done to the boat and also to complete our holiday plans without having the crossing hanging over us.

Thanks for Reading!
