Tonight we are still at the marina in Columbus, MS.

A couple of things dictated our third night here at this marina. First, "Sun Gypsy" had to have a transmission oil cooler replaced. Rick had been noticing a drop in oil level in one of his transmissions every day. The thought is that there are some pin holes in the internal tubes of the transmission cooler that are letting transmission oil leak out into the raw water discharge. He is carrying a spare oil cooler. So, the marina recommended a mechanic who came by this morning and replaced the cooler.

The work was done by late morning, but we had another reason to delay our departure. The other five boats that we had traveled with the last few days all left this morning in mass headed about 30 miles down river to Pirate's Cove Marina near Pickensville, AL. We continue to have a concern about seven boats being able to be accommodated at the small marinas and in the upcoming anchorages where we will have to stop. So, we want to create some separation of the group, and staggering our travel is a way to do this.

After rationalizing that we would spend tonight here at Columbus, we and Sun Gypsy  got the courtesy car again and went into town for lunch. We chose Huck's Place right down town. The restaurant is in an old building downtown and is run by two brothers. One is a graduate of the local Culinary School at Mississippi University for Women located right here in Columbus. It is commonly referred to as "The W". The lunch was very good, and they had a good crowd in the old restaurant atmosphere.

After lunch we walked around downtown Columbus and looked into some antique and gift/craft type stores. There were more stores featuring dress clothes, formals, and tuxes than anywhere else we have been. Where is the market for this stuff in this small rural town???

On the way back to the boat, we drove around "The W" in a nice section of Columbus. Once back at the marina, we made plans for our trip tomorrow. Dinner tonight was on the boat. I also did some maintenance checks today and was able to locate the central processor or "black box" for the throttle and shifter controls. I checked all the connections at this processor to make sure everything was tight. No problems found, so I still don't know why the fly bridge controls went offline the other day.

Tomorrow, we will will go through Stennis Lock, then about 30 miles to Pirates Cove Marina in Pickensville, AL.
