Susan saw several Carp jump by the side of the boat as we backed out. One almost hit her in the face! As we took the lead and started down the Illinois River, she was coiling the lines and cords on the lower deck. Maggie was down there also. It was a nice humid morning. Maggie started barking and Susan went over to the starboard side of the boat. A Carp had jumped into the boat in front of the dog!
We stopped in the River and got Maggie up on the fly bridge. Susan got the boat hook and pushed the fish out the transom door back into the River. The picture here shows the fish, and it almost looks like he (or she) is smiling at us. No free ride today!

We passed an old Tow Boat bone yard at Hamm's Marina along the River. Mr. Hamm does not answer his phone or have a radio. We know a boat that stopped to refuel here and they were told that the fuel meter was in an old building . They went into a building packed with piping and had to read the meter with a flash light. Then Mr. Hamm calculated the cost of the fuel using a rock writing on the side of the building in arithmetic. Hmmmmmm. Wonder how fresh the fuel was? These tow boats on land are being scrapped.

A thunderstorm passed over us at Chillecothe, IL and it rained a little, but we got to Peoria about 3 hours after leaving Henry. There were four boats in our flotilla today. We led "Entree' ", "Summer Recess", and "Always Five O'Clock". At IVY, we all refueled and pumped out, then went to our slips.
IVY is a private club along the River North of Peoria. We had learned of the club from the Looper Forum, and Jan and Ron on "Adagio" had been members here and raved about this stop. So, we really wanted to overnight here. It is really a nice club. The clubhouse has a restaurant and bar and there is a big pool complex. The slips are protected by a breakwater on the River. There is also an active sailing program at the Club. The members welcomed us and have been very friendly. We have thanked every member that we have met for allowing us to stay here as transient boaters.

Football watching and listening was on tap today since we got to our destination so early. I listened to some SEC games on XM radio, then listened to the Auburn pre game show on the Internet. I also heard part of the Auburn game before we left for dinner across the road at a local pub. The Auburn game was not televised up here. Thanks again to Ben for keeping me updated on the game with texts.

Restaurant of Choice Tonight. The Dining Room at the IVY Club was Closed. |
We will stay here again tomorrow so that we can enjoy the Club. I had wanted to go to the Caterpillar Visitor's Center in downtown Peoria, but it is not open on Sundays. Will catch it on another trip. I will go to Bass Pro up here tomorrow to get some water containers.
We will head down river again Monday. We are having to watch water depths now in marinas, so not sure where we will go on Monday. Water depths in the harbors are now in the 4-5' range, so there may be some places that we can't get into.
Thanks for Reading!
